2009 Gift to to the Union Community

After a successful 2009 Union
Tar Heel Days festival, the Union Betterment Association
distributed a total of $6,500 to the local community. The Union
Public Library, City Pool,
South Hardin Recreation Area, Playground equipment and the new
Emergency Siren all
received checks in the amount of $1,300. Front row, from left:

UBA's
Gift to the Community 2008
After
a successful 2008 Union Tar Heel Days Festival, the Union Betterment
Association distributed $9,000 to our local community. The
Union Public Library, the City Pool and the South Hardin Recreation
Area all received checks in the amount of $3000. We want to
take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors and support that we
received. Without you, our town celebration would not be a

About Union Betterment
Association
The Union Betterment Association meets the 4th Monday of each month at the
Heart of Iowa Telephone
Coop meeting room at 7 PM. Anyone living in Union or the surrounding area is
encouraged to attend. Lezlie Reel is the current chairperson.The Union Betterment Association organizes and sponsors the Tar Heel Days Festival
and Parade the second
week end in August, the City Wide Garage Sale, the Children's Christmas Party, and the
Christmas Lighting Contest and the Annual Soup Cook off Contest.
They co-sponsor Town Clean-up Day, and the Christmas Open
House, and support other worthwhile projects.
The Tar Heel Days Festival is the Union
Betterment Association's largest project. This group has a
Pork Loin Dinner on Friday night to help pay for the cost of the Tar
Heel Days Festival. The organize and sponsor Talent
Contest and other entertainment on Friday evening after the Dinner

UBS President Lezlie Reel Receives the Governor's Award
Lezlie
Reel received the Governor's Volunteer Award from Governor Chester
Culver. The Governor's volunteer Award program was established
to honor and recognize volunteers for the commitment, service and
time that they contribute to Iowa's government agencies and
nonprofit organizations.. Lezlie Reel, who is Chairman of the
Union Betterment Association, was nominated for the 2008
Governor's Volunteer Award by the City of Union because she is a
true example of what makes a volunteer by helping wherever she is
asked, whether it's Santa's visit, Spring Clean-up and because of
the endless hours of planning and physical work that she has done to
make the city's Tar Heel Festival a success for over eight years. |
