| Iowa
River |
|
 |
The beautiful Iowa River flows along the east edge of Union.
This stretch of the river flowing through Hardin county and past Union is one of
the most attractive for recreational users. The parks along the river provide
abundant accesses to the river for canoeists and fishermen as well as picnic areas, hiking
trails and campgrounds.
|
| As the Iowa River flows into Hardin County, the bottom substrate
changes from mud and sand to rock and gravel. This rocky substrate provides
excellent smallmouth bass fishing, as well as opportunities for channel catfish, northern
pike, and a spring run of white bass. |
 |

|
Starting at the Marshall county line, four miles
south of Union, the river has been channelized. Due to dredging, much of this
habitat has been lost. |
